2 trappers freed a grey wolf they caught in a coyote trap, after the USDA Wildlife Services placed a radio collar on the wolf. The same trappers also caught wolf pups in their coyote traps in 2002 and released them.

A dog was caught in 1 of the 19 snares placed in Upcountry Maui to try and capture large cat believed to be jaguar or leopard. After being released, the dog had 9 puppies.

A 62-year-old man was charged with felony animal cruelty for hanging a cat with a snare. The trap was intended to catch raccoons raiding his backyard goldfish ponds.

A radio-collared wolf was part of a study conducted by Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources scientists to evaluate the impact of a temporary moratorium on wolf killing in all townships adjacent to Algonquin Park. Researchers discovered that a wire neck snare had slowly killed the wolf, found lying in a pool of blood.
