Tanklin (“Tank”), a curious and adventurous family pet cat, was found dead in a small-game trap on a vacant property two days after going missing in Cortland, NY. It is against city regulation to set or use a leg-gripping trap of any kind or size, and this incident is currently being investigated by the Cortland Community Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A family four-wheeling along the Knik River in Anchorage, AK, found a bald eagle caught in a trap. They were able to free the eagle, but the eagle flew off before they could take it to a wildlife rehabilitator.

An 18-year-old man injured his arm in a Conibear trap that was set illegally near a playground in Coffee Creek Park in Chesterton, IN. The man saw the device and reached down to pick it up, not knowing what it was. Medics cut the trap off his arm, which was then splinted and wrapped.

A man and his dog, Cub, were hiking in the Cibola National Forest when Cub got caught in a leghold trap. Cub’s human companion said Cub was in extreme pain, but they were able to free him before Cub suffered any lasting injury. The trap was located approximately 80 feet from the road.

A stray dog–named Nittany by her rescuers–was found running in a residential neighborhood with a leghold trap caught on her leg. It took two days to catch her and give her emergency veterinary care. She was later brought to the Western PA Humane Society for care. it is possible her leg will need to be amputated.

A bald eagle in Hanover, PA, freed itself from a leghold trap, losing a talon on each foot. A woman found the eagle in her backyard, and it’s estimated the injured eagle may have walked up to a mile away from the trap. While the bird will survive, it will not be able to be returned to the wild.

A stray cat was found caught in an illegal leghold trap. The vet who examined her believed she had been in the trap for 24 hours or less. The trap was set illegally as trapping season in Nebraska is over. It’s believed the cat may have to have its leg amputated.

An 8 year old husky named Bear had been missing for more than 5 weeks when he was found dead, caught in a Conibear body-gripping trap in a field near the owner’s home. Police found the farmer who had set the trap in front of his chicken coop, and say that the dog got caught in it before running to a nearby front yard.

An 8 year old yellow lab, Molly Rose, was leashed and on a routine walk with her owner when she was caught in an illegal body grip trap. One of the men responsible for setting the illegal trap works as an animal control officer for Seneca Falls, NY. Both men are contracted by Seneca Falls Town Supervisor Gregory Lazzaro for animal nuisance control.

A chocolate labrador retriever was found with his leg in an unpadded leghold trap illegally set in Sky Prairie Park, an area utilized primarily by families. Trapping is prohibited within Spokane city limits.
