February 13, 2018 Socorro County, Cibola National Forest, Magdalena Ranger Distric, NM My dog stepped into a trap on public National Forest land in southern New Mexico. I knew immediately what was happening and since I volunteer with www.TrapFreeNM.org I know how to open a trap. She was in the trap for about a minute, but her foot became swollen. Also, to note, she was on a leash which offered zero protection. The trap was right in the path – which is legal in NM because it was a game trail and not an official marked trail.
