One of the twins birthed by Aurora, a polar bear, died shortly after birth of unknown causes. Aurora stopped caring for the other cub, so zookeepers removed and hand-reared her.

An adult, 15 year old giraffe named Bogy died due to recurring gastrointestinal issues. Although the zoo claims that the median life expectancy of a giraffe is 15, the other members of the herd are 30, 27, 15 and 4-months.

A beluga whale named Maris, who had just lost her baby to a premature death, also died at the Georgia Aquarium. Her death came on abruptly and the cause is unknown. Both of her babies born at the facility have died as infants.
