Cops responding to a burglary report found a 2- to 3-foot alligator in a bathtub. They brought the gator to the Animal Care and Control center. It is illegal to keep an alligator as a pet in New York.

A male, 50-year-old Asian elephant named Ranchipur was euthanized after years of medical problems.

Scottsdale, AZ

The Scottsdale Fire Department captured a 9-foot pet albino python after it was found in a gutter in a residential area. The snake was turned over to the Phoenix Herpetological Society. A local dentist later came forward to claim this snake and two others found in the area, saying they had escaped from his office.

More than 100 animals, including over 50 exotic birds and several geckos, were removed from a home after a fire drew attention to the unhealthy conditions the pets were living in. Volunteers were working to find temporary homes for the animals.

A monkey, possibly a rhesus macaque, was spotted on the loose in the Albany area numerous times. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is searching for it. The monkey is likely an illegal pet that was released or lost by its owner.

Kiazi, a female Western lowland gorilla, died after she had been under medical treatment for one week. Zookeepers noticed she was not using her left arm, and then that her health was declining. They anesthetized her for a full evaluation, but she died just before the procedure was scheduled to begin.

A sheriff’s deputy responded to a call about a snake and found a 6-foot-long boa constrictor by the side of a highway. Deputies believe the snake was an abandoned pet. He was brought to a reptile rescue until a new home could be found.
