A 75-year-old woman was killed by the “pet” deer she had raised from infancy.

A tiger cub being used in a petting zoo at the New Mexico State Fair bit a visiting man on the arm as the man was having his picture taken with the cub. The man was treated for minor injuries.

An emu got loose and injured an Animal Control officer. The officer was attempting to subdue the bird by a tranquilizer gun. However, the officer was injured and the bird subsequently died.

An iguana was on the loose for more than two months. Neighbors had seen the iguana, but no one was able to capture him.

Police received 15 to 20 reports of sightings of a mountain lion on the loose in a neighborhood. The animal was reclaimed from officials by his possessor.

A tiger slipped through a cage door and mauled a woman attending a fundraiser for Zoo Boise. The woman was wounded by a bullet fired to subdue the animal and was hospitalized with a broken leg and puncture wounds.

A 4-year-old cheetah named Casper escaped his enclosure, likely by climbing over the rock wall. A visitor spotted him roaming the zoo, and an employee recaptured him in 15 minutes.

A “pet” chimpanzee got loose from his cage and bit two individuals while roaming the neighborhood. The chimp, Herbie, was subdued and returned to his possessor’s home. In 1998, Herbie tried to remove the driver’s seat of a postal truck, causing the truck to slam into a parked vehicle.

Mikey, a “pet” monkey, bit two teenage girls after he escaped from his home. The girls sustained bites to their arms and faces.

Ted E. Bear, a monkey, bit one of his possessors and was subsequently shot and killed. The possessor was treated at a hospital and subsequently released. Ted E. Bear previously bit a man in 1998. See 01/09/98.
