The trailer transporting 2 African elephants owned by the Carson & Barnes Circus overturned with the elephants inside. The elephants were bruised, but survived. The truck driver was cited for an uninspected trailer, insufficient travel log and failure to keep right.

A “pet” monkey bit at least four local people. One incident was at a restaurant and another was at a fruit stand on U.S. Route 2.

Davenport, IA

A woman at the Mississippi Valley Fair was bitten, scratched, and hit on the head by a monkey who was posing for photographs. The monkey went “a little berserk.” The woman was tested for herpes, HIV, hepatitis, and rabies (results pending) and filed a lawsuit against monkey’s “owner” and the Mississippi Valley Fair.

While giving JoJo the monkey a hug and putting him back in his cage, a volunteer at B.E.A.R.C.A.T. Hollow animal park was grabbed by the hair. When the volunteer tried to free herself, JoJo bit her on the little finger of her left hand. The volunteer received a series of rabies shots.

A frightened zebra outside Ringling Bros. Circus dashed down a public street, endangering himself and bystanders. Fortunately, no one was injured during the animal’s rampage. Two years ago, two zebras escaped from the same circus on the same street.

A man found a 7-ft-long python in his driveway. The snake was suffering from mouth rot and third degree burns, probably caused by a heating pad.
