LaGuardia, NY

Officials from the CDC took a pygmy marmoset from a man who successfully smuggled him from Lima, Peru under his hat and onto Spirit Airlines Flight #180 which actually landed in Fort Lauderdale, FL and then connected to another flight at LaGuardia Airport in New York. If it were not for the passengers noticing, the man might have escaped detection.

Minneapolis, MN

Animal Control officials removed nearly 40 animals, many neglected, including exotic lizards and tortoises, birds (including a duck and cockatoo), chinchillas, and 5 Pomeranian dogs and a cat. Several chinchillas did not survive the move and 2 dogs had to be destroyed The animals remained in the care of the city’s animal shelter and the possessor’s home was condemned.

Mundson, a 7-year-old coatimundi who escaped the home of his possessor on 07/26/07, was back home again. A man and his daughter discovered Mundson and contacted the possessor who had placed flyers throughout the neighborhood.

A domesticated serval escaped from a motorhome in the Heritage Park area and cannot be located. It is illegal to own a serval in CO and the guardian could face fines for bringing the animal into the state.

Clark County, WA

Animal Control officers captured Bonnie the alligator in a pond near the Bonneville Power Administration lines. Bonnie was the third alligator captured in Clark County in the past two weeks. One was surrendered by the possessor’s parents and two appeared to have been abandoned.

A missing monkey who escaped from the Tupelo Buffalo Park and Zoo received coverage on The David Letterman Show after the possessor offered a lavish reward for the return of Oliver the monkey. The news made Letterman’s Top Ten List.

Glenwood , IA

Investigators seized 42 animals from a home near Glenwood. Dogs and cats were living in their own feces and urine. Twenty dogs, 15 cats, and a lynx were taken to the Nebraska Humane Society for treatment and care. Authorities continued to investigate and charges might be filed in the case.

A 15-month-old boy was rushed to the hospital after being bitten by a python in a popular local park. Park workers initially tried to kill the 3-ft-long ball python but eventually the snake was captured and turned over to a local pet shop owner who planned to help the injured snake and eventually sell it.

Millville, NJ

Officials were still not certain who was the possessor of an emu captured at an apartment complex. The emu was not at the Cumberland County SPCA. The Animal Control officer had received unconfirmed reports of as many as five or six emus loose in the woods near 2nd Street in Millville.

A Japanese snow macaque named Justin, seized by Rankin County Sheriff’s authorites in April after biting an IRS agent, was soon making his way to his new home at the Animal Protection Institute’s Primate Sanctuary (now the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary) in Dilley, Texas.
