A woman was gored and severely injured by a neighbor’s buffalo who escaped his pasture and entered the woman’s yard. The woman attempted to lure the buffalo out of her yard by tossing fruit, but the animal charged her, knocked her to the ground, and severely injured her legs. A police investigation was underway.

Police confiscated two Columbian red-tailed boa constrictors from two local residents. A cCity ordinance prohibits most residents from keeping “exotic” animals, except under certain conditions. The snakes were turned over to Kalamazoo County Animal Control.

A lion and a tiger escaped from McCarthy’s Wildlife Sanctuary because their cages were not secured properly. The Sanctuary owner was cited for keeping animals in an unsafe manner.

Two black leopards tranquilized and recaptured may have been responsible for an attack in March on a neighbor’s puppy, 200 yards from the leopards’ compound. Police were investigating.

Reports of a giant lizard began circulating early the previous week. A local man captured the lizard and kept him as his “pet.”

A neighbor complained of seeing a “baboon” at large. A sheriff’s deputy identified the animal as a monkey, not a baboon, and the animal had returned to his possessor.

Ulaq, a 5-year-old polar bear, died at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens. No cause of death was reported after necropsy. Zookeepers thought the bear was in excellent health before his sudden death.

Thurston County fairgoers alerted police to starving animals being exibited at a fair petting zoo. Ten animals were confiscated, including three alpacas, one llama, three goats, and three sheep. The animals were turned over to Hooved Animal Rescue of Thurston. Police referred the case to the prosecuting attorney.

A man discovered a 4-ft-long alligator in a crate alongside a road in Burlington County. The Cape May County Park and Zoo agreed to take the alligator.

A 16-year-old co-worker was attacked by three tigers at Predator World while attempting to take picture for a visitor. The teen was in critical condition.
