Simba, a declawed Siberian lynx, escaped her cage and was loose. Simba was wearing a red collar with crystals.

Tiger, a “declawed” African serval cat, escaped his possessor. The cat was spotted about three miles south of the possessor’s home Police cautioned people not to try to capture him.

A game warden was called to tranquilize a 90-lb male cougar who appeared at the front door of a local resident. No injuries to human or cat. The cougar was relocated.

According to a citation from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, zoo owner Nick Sculac inhumanely killed a tiger named Nala. Sculac diagnosed Nala as having cancer but failed to obtain veterinary care for her. Instead, he gave her three doses of sedative, unsuccessfully attempted to inject her with euthanasia solution, and ultimately killed her by cutting her throat. Sculac reported to Colorado officials that Nala had died of natural causes.

Buchanan County sheriff’s deputies discovered a pair of monkeys reported stolen from Kansas City man nearly a year ago during a domestic disturbance call. The monkeys were reunited with their former possessor.

Callao, MO

More than 200 animals were confiscated from cramped cages during an investigation into scrap metal theft. The animals included alligators, a baboon, chinchillas, and peacocks. The US Dept. of Agriculture and the Missouri Dept. of Agriculture removed the animals.

Misha, a 27-year-old, 6,000-pound elephant, died in the Hogle Zoo. She stopped eating, had little energy, and lost her will to live. Other elephants at the zoo grieved her death: 48-year-old Dari and Christie, a pregnant elephant. Elephants can live up to 60 years in the wild. Misha originally was captured in Africa as a baby. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo California gave Misha to the zoo after she attacked a keeper.

An Oregon man playing with his toddler son in his yard captured a 6-ft-long lizard capable of harming and injuring “pets” and humans. The lizard was put in the care of a local pet store.

Fifty animals died of smoke inhalation in a basement fire. The animals included rabbits, hedgehogs, two dogs, and chinchillas. Two dogs and three cats survived. The home owner raised exotic animals as a source of income.
