A captive lion attacks one of its trainers at MGM Grand Hotel while being on display to the public. Trainer receives stitches on his leg. The lion has since been put back on display.

A 500-pound Bengal tiger escaped from his pen excited by another escapee, a gibbon, both housed at Jungle Island of Miami. Caused panic within park, but no one was injured.

A woman was hospitalized after being bitten on her hand by her 12 foot long albino Burmese python while trying to feed it.

A man was bitten by his pet 18-inch Gaboon viper and drove himself to the hospital. Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission was contacted and the man was charged with 8 second-degree misdemeanor charges relatined to owning a venomous reptile without a permit.

14-inch alligator captured in Queens, NY. Captured by NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit and taken to the Brooklyn animal shelter, where 2 other reptiles were caught within 24 hours, an Argentine Tegu and a very large iguana.

Two zebras were spooked and escaped their handler in Carmichael,CA while being loaded onto a trailer. They were successfully captured after wandering the streets.

A helper walking by the bear enclosure while holding feed scoop used to feed the wolves in an adjacent enclosure was bit by the bear. The helper drove herself to the hospital.

Mendon, MA

A 36-year old Asian elephant named Dondi died at Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon. She was used for performances and rides. It was later reported that the elephant died of tuberculosis, which is transmissable to humans. The zoo’s previous elephant, Judy, also died of tuberculosis.
