South Philadelphia, PA

Pennsylvania humane officers seized animals, both dead and alive, from a couple that was hoarding them. Among the seized animals were two dead iguanas, a dead 4-foot alligator, at least three living turtles and countless dogs, frogs, cats, rats, roosters and tarantulas. Some of the animals were reported to be mummified.

Tyrone Township, MI

A 35-pound serval was found near a road and picked up by animal control. Officials believe the cat is a pet who was let loose in the area. The cat was released to Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park in Alto.

A rare five and a half-foot Dumeril’s Boa was found in Miami-Dade County. Handlers were able to quickly catch the snake and authorities are trying to find the owner.

A South Florida man faces charges after authorities say he tried to illegally sell a marmoset monkey on the internet. He did not have the permit to possess the 1-year old monkey and held it in a cage that did not meet requirements. The monkey was taken to a licensed wildlife facility.

The owner of an Iowa zoo is expected to recover from injuries suffered during a tiger attack. The owner was attacked while feeding an adult tiger.

A potentially dangerous, large, flightless bird native to Australia called a cassowary, escaped from the Denver Zoo. It was later located and returned to the zoo.

Adkins, TX

A 10-foot python was discovered in a chicken coop with dead and injured chickens. After the resident called county officials and was told that they did not have anyone to come get it, her son shot and killed the snake.

Longview, WA

Snakes kept as pets escaped and were reported to the county Humane Society. By the time officers arrived, they were back in their cages. However, the man was cited for not having correct registration and had his anaconda taken away as it is illigal to own in the county. He was allowed to keep his Burmese python and red tail boa.

Longview, WA

Animal control officers seized an 8-foot anaconda from a resident after it and two other snakes, a 10-foot Columbian red tail boa constrictor and a 6-foot Burmese python, escaped from the garage of the man’s home. All three snakes had been rounded up by their owner by the time police and animal control officers arrived. All three snakes were initially confiscated, but the boa constrictor and python were later returned as they were deemed less threatening.

A ball python believed to be a former pet was found in a resident’s yard. It was taken to the Cape Fear Serpentarium.
