Highlands, NJ

Police went to investigate a mournful crying and found a 600-pound pet tortoise who was living with 3 other rare Aldabra tortoises in the back patio of a duplex. All four were removed from the property and taken to the Popcorn Park Zoo in Lacy. The owner was charged with 8 counts of anial cruelty and possession of an exotic species without a permit.

A baby tiger was found dead from a blow to the head at Los Angeles Zoo. Officials admitted they are still in the dark over what caused the tragedy. The cub was one of three male Sumatran tigers born on August 6 and appeared to be doing well.

North Naples, FL

Signs were posted in a North Naples community warning people of an escaped 8-9 foot python. The snake was not found.

Hempstead, TX

A Capuchin monkey, one of ten that were let loose when wildfires forced evacuation in Warren County, bit a game warden and was euthanized. The couple responsible for the monkeys and who released them also own three other primates who they took with them during the evacuation. Two other primates are still on the loose. They are assumed to be stressed and considered dangerous.

A college mascot bald eagle flies into a window at a pre-game show in Auburn. Observers report that he sounded like a truck when he hit the window. The eagle is said to be recovering.

Los Angeles, CA

Two men were charged with animal cruelty after 15 monkeys they were shipping from South America to Thailand were found dead at the Los Angeles International Airport. The men placed 14 Marmoseets, 5 white-fronted Capuchins and 6 Squirrel Monkeys in three wooden boxes in Miami bound for Los Angeles, who were then supposed to transfer to a flight going to China. However, due to irregularity with the shipping documents were denied access to the plane. LAX officials found 14 of the 25 primates were dead, and a Capuchin was rushed to a veterinarian, who had to euthanize the animal. The surviving animals were taken to San Diego Wild Animal Park.

El Paso Zoo announced that Wzui, a 6-year old male tiger, was killed by his partner, a female tigress named Sheri. It is suspected that Sheri was jealous of the attention Wzui was giving to another tigress, 15-year old Meli.

An animal control officer seized 2 large boa contrictors from a Longview apartment saying the snakes posed a danger to a 5-year old boy who lived there.

Billings, MT

Animal control personnel captured a 12-foot reticulated python in the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant. They released the snke into the hands of staff at the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter. Owners were later contacted and the snake sent home.
