Logan, UT

A large tortoise was found wandering in downtown Logan. The 100-pound plus African spurred tortoise was take to the Willow park Zoo where the owner later identified and claimed the animal.

Long Island, NY

Suffolk County Police found another abandoned alligator in Long Island for the fifth time in the last 9 days. The 3-foot long American alligator was found inside of a plastic tub in the parking lot of an Applebees restaurant. The Suffolk County SPCA is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to a conviction for the abandonment of these animals.

Montague, MA

A 4-foot ball python was found outside of a sewage plant. Another ball python was found last month near a bike path not far from the plant. These snakes were apparently set loose by a former owner in Montague.

Long Island, NY

A 4-foot alligator was found roaming free in a supermarket parking lot. The day before, another 3-foot alligator was found inthe same parking lot. Police were able to catch both alligators and turned them over to the Nassau County Emergency Services Unit. From there, theywill be sent to a suitable sanctuary in Florida. The animals are believed to have been dumped.

An alligator was found foaming free on a Long Island golf course. The animal was captured and taken to the aquarium in Riverhead. This was the fourth alligator found roaming freely in Long Island in five days. The animals are thought to have been released by an owner(s) that no longer wanted them.

Authorities raided a Pasadena home and seized 40 animals including a 15-foot python, a kinkajou, aquatic turtles, a tarantula, parrots, and various other species. The animals were found without food or water. The aspiring vet student responsible claimed he was running a rescue. Charges are pending.

Police say a man found dead in his home appeared to have suffered a snake bite. The man kept several poisonous snakes in his home despite an ordinance prohibiting them.

NY police arrested a mand and a woman for allegedly stashing illegal handguns, drugs, and a 3.5-foot alligator in their Brooklyn home. They were charged with harboring an alligator along with drugs and criminal possession charges.
