A Resolution

It seems almost every single day brings some new joy, insight, or challenge to the Born Free USA Primate Sanctuary, and this past year has been no exception. We’ve had our share of ups and downs, wonderful successes, personal disappointments, and said some sad goodbyes.[teaserbreak]

I don’t think it’s very accurate, or even entirely reasonable, to look back and judge an entire year as being either good or bad; too much goes on during that time and, after all, only humans grant any special meaning to the change of a calendar year.

Still, it does serve as a time to reflect on what has happened—preferably with a clear eye to the future as we try to make each year (and each moment) better than what has gone before.

With primate newcomers Professor, MaryAnn, and Mikey adapting to their new lives at the sanctuary, we have much to look forward to, and much more work to do. They don’t know about holidays, the beginning of a new year, or making plans; instead, they live within each moment, and it’s our duty to ensure that those moments are as full and enriched as possible.

And that, to me, is a perfect resolution for every year.

For the primates,
Tim
