Saskia, a 20-year-old lioness at Scotland’s Blair Drummond Safari Park, was joined by Zulu, a younger male lion from the Netherlands. On June 6, a fight broke out between the two, in which Zulu bit Saskia, severing part of her spine. Saskia was then euthanized. “Close confinement of large predators in unnatural conditions can lead to stress and violence with deadly consequences,” said Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA.
