Following Cecil the Lion’s Death, Born Free Speaks Out against Trophy Hunting

in Animal News on July 30, 2015

Watch an interview with Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, as he discusses the topic of big game hunting in the wake of the killing of Cecil the lion. Roberts explains, “Born Free is one of a number of organizations who, back in 2011, petitioned the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to list the African lion as ‘endangered’ under the Endangered Species Act. This would almost all but stop the trophy hunting of lions in Africa, or, at least, the ability of American trophy hunters, who are really the core of the problem in this instance, bringing those trophies back. It’s one thing that we have the power to change in America to try and support lion conservation in Africa—and we’re still waiting for the U.S. government to issue its final rule on our petition.”
