Born Free USA commends President Obama for introducing new restrictions on the ivory trade. These new measures include a ban on the interstate sale of most ivory in the U.S. and new restrictions on when the material can be exported. The U.S. is a major market for illicit ivory and, once implemented, the new rule would result in a near total ban on the ivory trade in the U.S.
