Wildlife Campaigners Urge China to End Ivory Trade

Wildlife campaigners are piling the pressure on China to ban the illegal trade in elephant ivory. They met members of the Chinese government last week to demand an end to the sale of tusks, which has fueled the slaughter of 100,000 elephants in the past three years. (China is the world’s largest importer of illegal elephant tusks.) According to Will Travers, President of Born Free Foundation, “What is most urgently needed is a global political commitment to end all trade in ivory.”
