Hooray for West Hollywood!

in Fur Trade on September 21, 2011

On Monday in Southern California, at the end of a seven-hour meeting that lasted well into the wee hours, the West Hollywood City Council agreed unanimously to ban the sale of fur clothing — news that, in light of the unspeakable suffering and slaughter caused by trapping for the fur industry and coldly dispatched at so-called fur farms, makes me say:

About “bloody” time.

That’s not to say that West Hollywood officials should be anything but congratulated for this compassionate, fantastic step. Rather, it’s about time that now one city within the United States finally has taken a stance against the embarrassingly outdated, dishonest, shameful concept of “fur fashion.”

And ironically, that one city is right next door to Hollywood, where later this week Born Free USA is staging our second fffashion L.A. show. As you know, when we say fffashion, we mean fur free fashion, which is always in fashion! Every item of clothing to be modeled during Thursday evening’s red-carpet event was designed with animals in mind (but not on the clothing!).

Just as wildlife should be left alone in the wild, fur should be left on animals who are alive and free. Thank you, West Hollywood, for being out front on this “bloody” important issue. Now let’s get ready to cheer as other communities follow suit.

Blogging off,
Will
