Bill Description: If passed, this bill would prohibit the use of carbon monoxide gas, chloroform, ether, halothane, and fluothane to destroy pet animals. This prohibition would apply to both individuals and organizations.

Carbon monoxide and chloroform present hazards to humans, which subjects those who perform euthanasia to an unacceptable risk. Furthermore, the use of these gases can cause stress and anxiety in the animals. And there are a number of factors — such as using properly designed equipment and ensuring that it is properly maintained and operated — which translate too often into painful and prolonged deaths for animals. As a result, it is time to relegate these methods to the past.
