Body-gripping traps — such as Conibear traps, leghold traps, and snares — are not species-selective. They are indiscriminate and sometimes catch and kill non-target animals, including family dogs and cats, and even threatened and endangered species. Their use should not be increased, especially in areas that are so close to peoples’ homes where children, dogs, and cats are likely to encounter them. Instead, the use of these devices should be restricted not expanded.
