Endangered Snow Leopards Are Collateral Damage of Trophy Hunting in Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, legal trophy hunting of ibex and argali sheep has had the unintended consequence of placing the endangered snow leopard in the line of fire, too. Ecologists say that hunting cannot be sustained at its current rate, as more snow leopards are being killed than can naturally reproduce. Unfortunately, the government of Kyrgyzstan believes the numbers are sustainable and recently voted down a proposal that would have banned hunting until 2030.
