“The species is in free-fall…”

The killing of Xanda the lion by a trophy hunter earlier this month demonstrates that trophy hunting continues to threaten the survival of African lions. There are only about 20,000 wild lions left in Africa and trophy hunting—along with poaching and, newly, the legal export of captive lion skeletons to Asia—is placing pressure on the species.
