Packy, a well-known 54-year-old elephant at Oregon Zoo, has just been euthanized. Though the zoo claims that Packy was euthanized because he failed to respond to treatments for drug-resistant tuberculosis, animal advocates insist that the elephant was not suffering and should not have been killed.
