S. 2508/A. 4386: Nosey’s Law [2016-17]

in New Jersey on January 19, 2017

Update (October 20, 2016): This bill passed the Senate by a vote of 32-5.

Bill Description:
This bill would prohibit the use of elephants in traveling animal acts.[teaserbreak]

Background:
Nosey is an elephant who is virtually crippled by arthritis, and who is forced to travel the country to give rides at fairs, flea markets, and other events. The arthritis has caused Nosey unnecessary suffering and permanent disability, and reports indicate that Nosey has been denied necessary veterinary care. Despite this, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has failed to take action to protect Nosey, and Nosey’s owners continue to use her in shows. This bill would prohibit such shows in New Jersey.

Take Action:
New Jersey residents, contact your state assembly member and urge him or her to support this legislation.
