Tourists are Destroying Japan’s “Rabbit Island”

Since a YouTube video of Japan’s “Rabbit Island” popped up in 2014, tourism has boomed. But, tourists have begun to destroy the island by feeding the rabbits. The once-stable rabbit population has surged to unsustainable levels, threatening the ecosystem… and the rabbits now have a life expectancy of only two years. Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA, expressed concern that “seemingly benign social media” can lead to poor behavior by humans that is detrimental to animals.
