Born Free Foundation has welcomed the decision by the South African cabinet not to proceed with a proposal to legalize the international trade in rhino horn. According to Adam M. Roberts, CEO of Born Free USA and Born Free Foundation, “Born Free has argued strongly, alongside many partner organizations, scientists, economists, and other experts, that legalizing the trade in rhino horn would increase demand, provide a mechanism for laundering illegal horn, and undermine law enforcement and demand reduction efforts; in other words, it would be bad for rhinos.”
