California Enacts Law to Protect Elephants and Rhinos

Legislation by Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins that strengthens California’s fight against the illegal slaughter of elephants and rhinos was signed on October 4 by Governor Jerry Brown. A.B. 96 closes loopholes that prevent fully effective enforcement of existing California law prohibiting the sale of ivory. This bill was supported by several advocacy organizations, including Born Free USA.
