Staff member Shanay Dickey has been spending some quality time with the WAO stumptails. She writes:
Click on image for larger version.“Dewey is the youngest stump-tail macaque who has joined our sanctuary from the recent WAO rescue. He often is seen playing on the new ‘spider’ climbing structures and bouncing on the shade-sails that double as a trampoline for the more adventurous monkeys. While this playful behavior is quite entertaining to watch, there are also heartwarming moments.

“Little Dewey has formed a special bond with Abo, the alpha-male of this large group. While Dewey is in the same enclosure as his mother, he seems to enjoy the companionship of the older male. Abo is the leader of the group and usually keeps everyone in line, but he definitely has his sweet moments. Abo is often seen grooming the young stump-tail and holding him by his side when Dewey is startled or needs comforting. The bond between these two is undeniable and Dewey is definitely learning how to be a proper stump-tail from one of the best.”
Now if we can just get a picture of the two together (the one shown here is of Dewey and Lois, his mother)!
