A Born Free Foundation team has just returned from a visit to dolphin project in Turkey where we met with our Turkish partners S.A.D. (Underwater Research Society) and caught up with how Misha and Tom’s rehabilitation is progressing.

We are very pleased to report that Misha and Tom’s health continues to improve as Jeff Foster, Derya Yildirim and Amy Souster, the marine mammal rehabilitation team, endeavour to build up the dolphins’ health, keep them fit and ultimately prepare them for life in the wild.

During meetings, extensive discussions were held to discuss the numerous different aspects of this rescue and rehabilitation effort. Following the advice of the project’s marine mammal rehabilitation expert, Jeff Foster, it has been determined that the dolphins are currently on course to be released in late September 2011, thus avoiding the busy tourist boating summer season in Turkey and ensuring that enough time is given to develop the dolphins’ skills for survival in the wild. The dolphins will be monitored post-release via satellite tagging using small and efficient satellite tags.
