Our first cold front hit in late October and all the monkeys fared well. This is the time of year when their bodies start acclimating to cooler weather and shorter days. Their coats thicken and they become even more interested in fatty foods such as peanuts and sunflower seeds in an effort to lay on some extra insulation.

Our latest rescue, Bo, came through the cold spell with flying colors as he figured out his sleeping box very quickly. He quite naturally picked the warmest places to be during the night. Then, at first light, he was out running around his enclosure looking for his breakfast and attempting to provoke Maude.
The young long-tails also did well. We often see them grooming in pairs but rarely do we see them all together at once. That changed quickly once they got a taste of cooler air and found that sharing body heat was a pretty good way to ward off a chill.
Grinch enjoys an apple.The bonnets have been especially active and there has been some infighting among the males, so we’ve shaken up the group dynamics a bit by moving Marco in with Grinch, Mig and two other females. So far, so good as the aggression has lessened and the girls are enjoying some extra attention. Surprisingly, Grinch seems very comfortable having an extra male in his group and spends quite a bit of time grooming Marco. We normally don’t like upsetting the apple cart but sometimes it’s necessary to prevent spoilage.
