The mess over Michelle Obama’s dress

in No Category on February 09, 2009

I challenge anyone who says Michelle Obama looked anything but stunning at the inauguration ball.

But then Michelle would probably look stunning dressed in a potato sack. I can’t decide how I feel about the actual dress design. I guess, I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either.

This pretty much sums up how I’m feeling about the designer of the dress right now too. Jason Wu is no doubt a talented young designer, but there are a lot of talented young designers out there. To stand out and win my approval and affection designers have to be more than talented — they have to have a heart, and this naturally means that they don’t use real fur in their designs.

This is why I’m still undecided about Jason Wu. You see, a while back Jason boasted that he planned to use a lot of fur in his future designs. In addition he signed a deal to design for Saga Furs. Well, if that’s not a sure fire way to get on my black list I don’t know what is … However, he recently announced that he has put his fur collection and work with Saga furs on hold.

What does this mean? Is he just so busy from the massive exposure that he is re-thinking his contract with Saga? Or is he thinking about the animals and re-thinking whether fur belongs in his collections at all?

Only time will tell. But we can only hope that he will swear off fur for good and that Michelle Obama will continue not to wear fur and perhaps even choose to work only with fur free designers.

Hey, maybe Michelle will choose her next designer from the pool of young talent that will be entering Born Free USA’s fur free fashion competition “fffashion“.

Wouldn’t that be beautiful!

Blogging off,

Monica
