Rehabilitation updates

India and Gilbert have bonded well. They spend a lot of time together, eating, playing and grooming each other. I never tire of watching them together. India has also established a good relationship with Teddy and Zach. Her confidence is growing and she has become bolder and more vocal.

Logan, too, is becoming more active and vocal. Frankie has made a number of playful advances to him to which he has responded in a positive way. This is encouraging.

The rehabilitation of the group of long-tailed macaques who were retired from research has gone well. They have been with us for three months and the difference in their behavior is heartwarming. They are ready for their final step — living freely in a natural environment. We are working towards releasing them into their own multi-acre enclosure and hope to be able to do this in the next few weeks. I am really excited about this. After years of living in metal cages, many essentially in social isolation, it will be wonderful to enable them to finally live a natural life.

Until next week,

Sarah
