Yet another good delivery of fresh produce this week — lots of soft fruit such as peaches, mangos, nectarines, grapes, and pluots. It’s a real treat to feed the baboons the day after our delivery. They are always keen to see what is new on the menu and get very excited vocalizing to each other if they see a particularly favored item.

After a cool and cloudy start to the week, we are now having some very high temperatures. Certain individuals, such as Carly and Chessie, two snow monkeys, get a real kick out of the spray from the water hose. As we go around refreshing water tubs in the afternoon, they stand directly in front of the hose to receive a good soaking.
Other monkeys, such as the bonnet and rhesus macaques, are not quite so enthusiastic over water, but they do enjoy sitting on the tubs and dipping their toes in as well as dunking food before eating it.
There’s one thing, however, that all the monkeys enjoy during the hot weather and that is fruit-flavored ice cubes. I have just made the first batch of the year and look forward to handing them out later today.
Until next week,
Sarah
