H 1787 Undermines Anti-Trapping Laws [2007]

Bill Description: If passed, this bill would allow operators of airports to use body-gripping traps to capture and kill wild animals at airports without obtaining the permits required under exising law.

Existing law provides an avenue for addressing human/wildlife conflicts. This legislation is a pretext for weakening existing law limiting the use of body-gripping traps. The voters already have spoken to this issue by enacting Initiative 713 and restricting the use of these cruel devices; the state Legislature needs to respect the will of the voters.
