CITIZENS’ INITIATIVE — You can help determine the outcome on this important animal protection initiative. Please vote! And please share this information with your relatives and friends so that they can be prepared when they enter the ballot box to vote.

If passed by voters, this initiative would create a new state statute prohibiting the abusive confinement of calves in veal crates and pregnant pigs in gestation crates. The statute would take effect in 2013.
[teaserbreak]
In an effort to continually increase productivity and profit, factory farms are known to treat feeling, sensitive animals as nothing more than commodities. Both veal calves and breeding pigs are kept so severely confined in crates that the animals cannot even turn around or extend their limbs. The extremely overcrowded conditions cause extreme suffering for the animals, in addition to polluting the air, contaminating groundwater and threatening human health. Both veal and gestation crates are so cruel that they have been outlawed in several other countries as well as being banned by citizen initiative in Florida in 2002.
